Cherokee Fighting: Source |
Option 1 - Cherokee Stories:
The three stories that I read were all from the Untextbook under Cherokee Tales.
Cherokee, as a language, is very descriptive. This also remains true when it comes to the storytelling involved. I read through these three, as I had already read the origins story. I love these stories because they heavily incorporate animals as the protagonists. I am not sure why, but it helps me visualize the story much better and that makes it more enjoyable to me. I also know that teaching in Cherokee culture relies heavily on storytelling. I think this will allow me to have a multitude of options for stories, which will help me find one that I really like.
Option 2: Animals in Aesop
The stories I read were all under the wolves section in the Untextbook
As mentioned above, I really love stories with animals as the main character. That being said, wolves happen to be my favorite animal. I am not as much a fan of werewolves, but wolves are easily the coolest. Furthermore, I liked these stories a lot also, even though they were very short. I think wolves are a great animal that relates and can be related to people. They stick together and are very fierce, two qualities that I feel humans exemplify. I feel that few people don't like wolves, so that makes the stories about wolves more interesting.
Option 3: Pirates
Found once again in the Untextbook
My dad always told me, "Work like a sailor, party like a pirate." I really enjoyed these stories, mostly because I always have loved stories about pirates. It is a very unique setting and allows for phenomenal stories. I especially enjoyed Montbars the Exterminator and really feel like I could retell it well. This one is pretty straightforward - I just love pirates.
Option 4: Bible Stories
These are all from the Untextbook
Personally, I have read various stories in the bible and am a Christian. I really enjoyed how the story of Cain and Able was retold in "Murder". I think it would be really fun and easy for me to retell these stories because I am already familiar with them. I also would love an opportunity to read the bible and become more familiar, as that is always a good thing.
