Reading Notes: Sun Wu Kung: Handsome King of the Apes

Igoo the Stone Ape: Source
Reading Notes:

  • Far East there is an Island called "The Mountain of Flowers and Fruits"
  • There was a rock on the very top that had magical powers to create
  • Out of this rock hatched a stone ape
  • This stone ape slowly grew and became so strong that even the God of the Heavens feared his eyesight
  • The God sent two others out to see what the rays of light were and they said there wasn't anything to fear as it was just an Ape
  • On a hot summer day the apes on the island went to cool off
  • They found a waterfall and said whoever could pass would be the king
  • The stone ape got excited and passed through
  • He passed through and found a bridge that was covered by the waterfall, as the waterfall acted as a curtain from the outside world
  • He told the other apes and they all passed through after asking him to take them
  • He appointed other apes and all was well for some hundred years.

Think that adding more to this story would make it better. I think that being more descriptive and giving more dialogue would make it better. May be cool to try and do it in haiku format.

This story is part of the The Monkey King unit. Story source: "The Ape Sun Wu Kung" in The Chinese Fairy Book, ed. by R. Wilhelm and translated by Frederick H. Martens (1921).
